Achieving Excellence in Technology: Sharing Insights with
Our Professional Community
In addition to recent awards and recognition, BDO Consulting professionals have been
heavily involved in drawing upon their experience and expertise to share knowledge
with professional communities. BDO Consulting Director and Data Analytics practice
leader, Kirstie Tiernan recently attended a Data + Women Meetup breakout session at
the Tableau Conference, in addition to hosting her own networking event with
conference attendees. The Meetup featured women with a variety of backgrounds,
including industry leaders, humanitarians, and experts in Tableau, in a discussion
about how to help advance women in the data field. In addition, Kirstie also
presented at the Financial Executives International CPE event on “Big Data: Big
Opportunity or Big Headache,” focusing on the application of data analytics as a costeffective method for controlling the widening gap between data management and
decision-making.
Joining the discussion about professional advancement in technology, BDO Consulting
Senior Manager Rachel Weinthal recently participated in the 2015 Leading Women in
Technology Wilpower Program.
Wilpower is a monthly program that brings experts in
marketing, leadership, strategic thinking, and communication together to enhance
career growth and develop leadership skills.
“Participating in the Wilpower program, I gained strategic and actionable guidance on
professional skills such as goal setting, negotiation, personal branding, and
influence,” says Rachel. “These skills help me realize my own professional growth,
and in turn, enable me to provide our clients with the exceptional service that BDO is
known for in the marketplace.”

BDO Gives Back to the Community
We would like to recognize BDO’s annual involvement in the Make-A-Wish foundation,
an organization that grants wishes to children diagnosed with life-threatening
medical conditions. Launched in 2009 as a volunteer initiative, the BDO Counts Good
Deeds program continues to realize a measurable impact on local communities
through year-round service and teamwork opportunities, as well as a firm-wide Week
of Service.
This past holiday season, volunteers from BDO’s New York office gathered
to create “wish sacks” and wrap gifts for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
“Making a wish come true for a child is a genuine way to help brighten their spirits as
they deal with significant challenges,” says BDO Consulting Director, Susanne Cleary,
who helped organize the event with BDO Consulting Litigation Director, Michael
Ammirabile.
In addition to organized volunteer work, BDO employees are also involved in their
communities. BDO Consulting Managing Director Nicole Sliger volunteers with Hudson
County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA), a non-profit
organization that works with members of the community to advocate for the best
interests of the children in foster care and improve their overall well-being. Nicole
visits with children monthly to gather information from them, as well as their family
members, parents, teachers, doctors, attorneys, and social workers.
She reports to
the court about whether the children are getting the necessary services and
assistance they need, while helping to move them toward safe and permanent homes.
Appreciating our own good fortunate, BDO professionals welcome the opportunity to
help others in need.
Happy New Year!
